A 501(c)3 organization
|Dedicated to responsible ownership of Irish Wolfhounds|
Thank you for the great response to the call for potential new homes. Due to an overwhelming response, we were able to place:
If you think you could provide an IW with a new forever home, fill out a Rescue Questionnaire below. You may also make tax deductible donation to the RMIWA rescue as a 501(c)3 organization. See donation information at the bottom of this page.
The RMIWA Rescue Committee works with animal shelters and individual owners who must re-home their Irish Wolfhounds due to various life changing events including illness, job loss, moving, and death. The ages of the IWs needing placement range from youngsters to veterans; however, most rescues are over 1 year old.The RMIWA Rescue Committee re-homes an average of 5-10 IWs per year. Although the RMIWA does not place IW mixes directly, we do refer interested adopters to local animal shelters and to individuals who have IW mixes to place. We concentrate our placements in the Rocky Mountain region. If you are interested in adopting an Irish Wolfhound outside of the Rocky Mountain states, please contact the Irish Wolfhound Club of America Rescue at http://www.iwclubofamerica.org/rescue.htm.
Occasionally, the RMIWA Rescue Committee is given very little notice to re-home an IW; therefore, if you would like to be considered for an adoption, it is important to take a few minutes now to complete our adoption questionnaire and return it to us. However please be aware, even if you complete an adoption questionnaire, you may not hear from us for weeks or months about an available hound.
Please read the following guidelines that the RMIWA Rescue uses to approve acceptable homes before completing the adoption questionnaire.
The RMIWA Rescue Committee does not practice "first come-first serve" when placing Irish Wolfhounds in new homes. Instead, through the information provided on the Adoption Questionnaires, we attempt to match the rescue IW with the home that will best met his needs and background.
Adoption fees vary and are based on the costs incurred in transportation, spay/neuter expenses and other medical expenses. Adoption fees may be reduced for older dogs, or dogs with known illness.
If you are interested in adopting an Irish Wolfhound, please download and complete the adoption questionnaire and either mail it to the rescue coordinator listed on the application or e-mail it to one of the contacts listed below. Due to our volunteer's work and personal schedules you may need to wait a week or more for a response on general inquiries.
