The RMIWA Rescue Committee works with animal shelters and individual owners who must re-home their Irish Wolfhounds due to various life changing events including illness, job loss, moving, and death. The ages of the IWs needing placement range from youngsters to veterans; however, most rescues are over 1 year old.

The RMIWA Rescue Committee re-homes an average of 5-10 IWs per year. We concentrate our placements in the Rocky Mountain region. If you are interested in adopting an Irish Wolfhound outside of the Rocky Mountain states, please contact the Irish Wolfhound Club of America Rescue .

ADOPTION INFORMATION

To be considered for adopting an Irish Wolfhound, please contact our rescue coordinators listed below. Due to the number of inquiries we get, you may have to wait up to one week for a response from us on general inquiries.

If after a brief exchange of information, it is determined that an Irish Wolfhound adoption may work for you, we will send you an adoption questionnaire. However please be aware WE USUALLY HAVE MORE POTENTIAL HOMES THAN HOUNDS TO PLACE. Even if you complete an adoption questionnaire, you may not hear from us for quite some time on available hounds.

The RMIWA Rescue Committee does not practice "first come-first serve" when placing Irish Wolfhounds in new homes. Instead, through the information provided on the Adoption Questionnaires, we attempt to match the rescue IW with the home that will best met his needs and background. Occasionally, the RMIWA Rescue Committee is given very little notice to re-home an IW; therefore, if you would like to be considered for an adoption, it is important to take a few minutes now to complete the adoption questionnaire and return it to the committee members listed below.

Guidelines for acceptable homes:

bulletNumber of animals housed in the residence comply with county laws and home owner association by-laws and covenants
bulletNo "Invisible Fences"
bulletAll resident children in the household must be over 5 years old

Adoption fees vary and are based on the expenses incurred in transportation, spay/neuter expenses as well as other medical expenses. The fees typically range from $100 to $200.
